CHARIS CIRCLE IS YOU!

Charis Circle is the 501c3 non-profit programming arm of Charis Books and More, the nation’s oldest independent feminist bookstore, and it is your gathering ground for community arts and collaborative justice.

Thank you to the hundreds who have already pledged their support in denominations large and small. Will you help fund the feminist future today?

When you make your tax-deductible donation to Charis Circle before December 31st, you join the community of feminists located across the southeast and around the world who believe in the necessity of cultural gathering grounds and who pledge to protect and nurture the space that has nurtured them for the last 38 years.

Today you have more options than ever for how you get your information. You may not even read traditional books anymore. We understand that culture is shifting, and whether you are excited about those changes or scared about them, they are certainly happening.

In Charis’ 38 years we have witnessed one truth bear out time and time again: when people come together in a room to tell stories radical transformation can occur. That’s it. Stories change lives. Words can be weapons or they can be balm. Charis Circle is yours because it is woven from your stories, from all the lives that have intersected within these walls during our 38 year history. No matter how many new ways we innovate to communicate with each other, we must not lose the places we have counted on to protect and nurture our stories and our truths.

I ask you today to nurture Charis as it has nurtured you. No amount is too small if it is meaningful and generous to you.

Thank you for making Charis what it is for me, my home away from home, the most interesting part of my world, and a living reminder of the revolutionary power of words and voices.

-Elizabeth Anderson,
Charis Circle Executive Director

Think we got a good thing going on here? Give the gift of year-round Feminist Community by making a tax-deductible donation to Charis Circle before December 31st.
  •  Your donation helps new writers hone their voices and find their places on the shelves.
  •  Your donation breaks down barriers between people of different identities by providing gathering grounds and creating social change through community workshops.
  •  Your donation helps young people envision a feminist future beyond the gender binary.

What does your donation to Charis mean to you? Tell us! We’d love to hear why you’re funding the feminist future. Maybe you fund because you love books and need a place to gather around words. Maybe you give because you know no one is free until we are all free. Maybe you fought in your youth for the very same rights you see threatened today. Whatever reason you come home to Charis, we thank you and we want you to know you are in great company!

Poets & Writers Interview with Charis Director Elizabeth Anderson

Poets &Writers interviews our very own Elizabeth Anderson:

“What do you consider to be the value of literary programs for your community?

Elizabeth Anderson

All writers and readers have the potential to be activists if they choose. Bookstores are gathering grounds. They are the places to come and recharge your batteries or lick your wounds or rebuild after a hard political battle. At Charis, we fight to keep the doors open for our community because we believe there is a kind of grace in the act of gathering around stories no other space in our culture can provide. “

Greetings from the Charis Circle Board of Directors

Greetings from the Charis Circle Board of Directors,
and Happy New Year!

Back in December 2011, we had a wonderful fundraiser that featured a performance by the incomparable Doria Roberts and, afterward, dance music by dj lynnee denise of WildSeed Music NYC.

We were grateful that so many of you came out to support Charis Circle’s vision of creating a Feminist Center in Atlanta. We also asked you to support our efforts by entering a raffle and purchasing a chance to win an Apple iPad2. The response to this raffle was great; a total of 86 tickets were sold, which allowed us to give away one iPad and use the remaining $400 toward planning and expenses. Thanks again for your support; we wouldn’t be here without you!

The drawing was held at the end of the event, and the winner was Christie Sizemore– Congratulations, Christie! December iPad 2 Winner - Christie Sizemore

Thank you so much for your support last year and always, including those of you who gave us money throughout the year; those who volunteered and gave of your time and talents in so many ways; and those who stand on the sidelines cheering us on decade after decade. We look forward to serving you for years to come!

Sincerely,

Charis Circle Board of Directors
