Charis Circle announces a special author event to commemorate the release of I Am Your Sister: Collected & Unpublished Writings of Audre Lorde
Atlanta, GA - Saturday, June 13, 2009
Charis Circle, ZAMI, and SisterSong will jointly host the editors of a new book of previously unpublished Audre Lorde writings, I Am Your Sister. From 6:30-9:30pm at Oakhurst Baptist Church (222 East Lake Drive in Decatur), the three organizations will hold a combination author event, celebration, and silent auction.
This event is free and open to the public. Community members are invited to hear Rudolph P. Byrd, Johnnetta Betsch Cole, & Beverly Guy-Sheftall read and discuss I Am Your Sister.
Following the reading and discussion, there will be a reception to celebrate and honor this important book and its amazingly gifted editors. Both before and after the event, guests are invited to participate in a silent auction to benefit Charis Circle, with art, gift certificates, books, jewelry, & more. Guests are asked to please bring a gently used or new feminist-interest book to donate to SisterSong in honor of Audre Lorde.
About the book: A collection of Audre Lorde's non-fiction prose, I Am Your Sister introduces new perspectives on the depth and range of her intellectual interests and commitments to progressive social change. Copies of I Am Your Sister are available now at Charis Books & More, and will be for sale at the event. Please click here for a full description of the book.
