co-sponsors all literary events. Our space is wheelchair accessible, and ASL interpretation is available by request with two weeks advance notice. 
Unless otherwise noted, all Charis Circle programs are free and take place in the space we share with Charis Books, at 1189 Euclid Ave NE, Atlanta GA 30307. Look for the purple building just behind the Brewhouse Restaurant.

"Know Your Rights" Workshop with Copwatch East Atlanta
Thursday, December 3, 7:30-9:00pm"Know Your Rights" This training with community members from Copwatch East Atlanta will teach basic skills for dealing with police harassment, and how to stand up for your rights and the rights of others when confronted by police. There will also be discussion of alternative community safety models.

Franklin Abbott with "Pink Zinnia"
Tuesday, December 8, 7:30-9:00pm
Join poet, psychotherapist, and activist Franklin Abbott as he reads from his sixth book, Pink Zinnia. Franklin believes that there is poetry in good therapy and therapy in good Franklin Abbott with "Pink Zinnia"poetry. He writes about the natural world and creates portraits of friends and teachers with humor and soulfulness. Join us to celebrate Franklin's birthday with refreshments, fun, and of course his beautiful words!

Exploring Genders Through Reading Wednesday, December 9, 7:30-8:30pmExploring Genders Through Reading
This facilitated book group meets on the second Wednesday of each month to discuss books that explore gender identity and representation. Join us in December to talk about The John Varley Reader, a collection of John Varley's best stories from the last 30 years and a must-have for any science fiction reader. From the moment John Varley burst onto the scene in 1974, his writing changed what fans would come to expect from science fiction. His stories have won every award the science fiction field had to offer, many times over.

Thursday, December 10, 6:30-9:00pmCharis Holiday Party & Sale Come ring in the Solstice and Holiday Season at your favorite neighborhood feminist bookstore! We're hosting our annual open-house and sale, so drop in at any point during the evening. This is a wonderful opportunity to do all your holiday shopping. The knowledgeable bookstore staff will be on hand to help you pick just the right gifts for everyone on your list. We'll have refreshments, holiday cheer and general merry-making throughout the evening, as well as free gift-wrapping for your purchases. Bring your friends, family, and neighbors... see you there!

Queer Literary Fiction Group
This facilitated book group meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at Charis to discuss books which feature queer characters/ storylines as well as a strong attention to literary craft and style. Join us in December to talk about Giovanni's Room, by James Baldwin, a highly controversial story of death and passion that reveals the unspoken complexities of the human heart. Set in 1950s Paris, a young man finds himself caught between desire and conventional morality.

Cliterati Open No-Mic
Thursday, December 17, 7:30-9:00pmCliterati Open No-MicCharis & Cliterati pair up to present an inviting and fierce open mic & reading series on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Hosted by the anarchic spoken word team of Karen G and Theresa Davis, members of the Art Amok Rushelle FrazierSlam Team, this series cultivates the voices of authors, novices and an assortment of poets, songstresses and story tellers. Our featured performer for December is Rushelle Frazier who comes to us by way of Savannah.

Akoma Book Club Akoma Book Club
Saturday, December 19, 10:30am-12:00pmThe Akoma Book Club (of Women Healing Women) meets at Charis Books & More on the third Saturday of each month. This book club is open to any woman seeking camaraderie with like-minded women for fun, self-empowerment and growth. Even if you haven't read the book, but are willing to talk about the principles in the book, you can join us for a lively discussion. The book selection for December is Kindred by Octavia Butler.
