Faiths & Feminisms Interfaith Book Circle
Monday, December 1, 7:00-8:30pm
Meeting on the first Monday of each month, this open book group seeks to deepen the dialogue between different understandings of, and commitments to, living a life in which faiths and feminisms intersect and inform our work for justice and wholeness. We discuss books that invite us to expand our hearts and minds. Facilitators are group participants of many faiths who are committed to increasing mutual enrichment and understanding. All faiths and all definitions of feminism welcome! Join us this month as we continue our discussion of Weaving the Visions: New Patterns in Feminist Spirituality, by Carol P. Christ & Judith Plaskow.

Urban Sustainability: Bicycle Power!

Charis and Sopo Bicycle Co-op bring you this fun and informational event about harnessing bicycle power to run formerly electric appliances. A Sopo volunteer will demonstrate the mechanics behind Sopo's bicycle-powered blender, while pedaling up some tasty blended treats for all to sample. Join us as we imagine a future that uses bicycles to power multiple appliances as an alternative to plugging in to the grid.

Young Women* Writers

This group is open to all young women* writers ages 14-19. Through facilitated writing prompts and supportive critique, participants are encouraged to raise their voices and express themselves through a variety of written mediums. Writers of all skill levels and genres are encouraged to stop in and see if the group works for them. This group meets the second and fourth Mondays of every month from 5-6:15pm. Writing with Intent

This facilitated group is open to all writers of fiction and creative non-fiction who want a serious group to provide constructive criticism, motivational exercises, and interpersonal accountability to keep their writing on track. We will do monthly exercises and critiques with an eye towards individual improvement and the eventual goal of publication. Writers are encouraged to bring copies of their work to share for critique. Come ring in the Solstice and Holiday Season at your favorite neighborhood feminist bookstore! We're hosting our annual open-house, so drop in at any point during the evening. Photographer Kathryn Kolb will be on hand to sign copies of her book of nature photographs, most taken in the Southeastern U.S., titled Kathryn Kolb Photographs. This is a wonderful opportunity to do all your holiday shopping. The knowledgeable bookstore staff will be on hand to help you pick just the right gifts for everyone on your list. We'll have refreshments, holiday cheer and general merry-making throughout the evening, as well as free gift-wrapping for your purchases. Bring your friends, family, and neighbors... see you there!

Writing Workshop with Rosemary Daniell
Saturday, December 13, 1:00-4:00pm at the Studioplex Lofts Community Room, Tickets $30 for adults, $10 for youth
In this workshop for beginning and advanced writers in all genres, acclaimed author and writing instructor Rosemary Daniell willdiscuss the many discoveries to be made in creative writing, as well as how you might apply them to your own life. She will reveal the Secrets of the Pros, plus special means for conquering your individual writing challenges to help you think through and resolve writing-and-living issues.
Rosemary is the author of numerous books including Secrets of the Zona Rosa. 
The workshop will take place from 1-4pm on Sat. Dec. 13th at the Studioplex Lofts Community Room 659 Auburn Avenue NE Atlanta, GA 30312. Admission is $30 for Adults and $10 for Writers under 22 (cash or check only, please). Tickets are available at Charis Books and More, 1189 Euclid Ave. NE Atlanta, GA 30307. Part of the proceeds will go to fund Charis Circle's mission of fostering sustainable feminist communities, working for social justice and encouraging the expression of diverse and marginalized voices. Cliterati Open No-Mic with Nagueyalti Warren

Charis & Cliterati pair up to present an inviting and fierce, openmic & reading series on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Hosted by the anarchic spoken word team of Karen G and Theresa Davis, members of the Art Amok Slam Team, this series cultivates the voices of authors, novices and an assortment of poets, songstresses and story tellers. Cliterati is 7years old and counting, open to all because ALL OPEN MOUTHS HAVE A VOICE. This December we are honored to feature a performance by Nagueyalti Warren, an Atlanta-based poet, author and professor at Emory University. An award winning poet, Nagueyalti has also contributed to numerous critical essays and book chapters on African American literature and women's writings in particular. She is a Cave Canem fellow, Summer Poetry in Idyllwild fellow and a member of the Atlanta-based Baobab Poetry Collective.

This book club is open to any woman seeking camaraderie with like-minded women for fun, self-empowerment and growth. Even if you haven't read the book, but are willing to talk about the principles in the book, you can join us for a lively discussion. The book selection for December is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.
