Discussion facilitators will present materials developed by STAND (Student-led Division of Genocide Intervention Network), Enough (Raise Hope for Congo: Protect and Empower Congo's Women), and VDay.  Learn how to activate and motivate the public to put pressure on elected officials and raise awareness and funds for projects on the ground in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

You are invited to perform original work that is inspired by Audre's words or ideas, or to read your favorite pieces from the collected works of Audre Lorde. Come celebrate your inner warrior and help us honor Audre as the muse! (Need writing prompts? check out the Cliterati blog) Within this theme, we acliteratire honored to feature a performance by award-winning slam poet Chauncey Beaty, who will be representing Atlanta's Art Amok slam team at the 2009 Women of the World Poetry Slam.

This debut novel is a true spiritual successor to the work of writers such as Zora Neale Hurston and Alice Walker-- but when it comes to bringing hard-luck characters to ingenious, uproarious life, Suzan-Lori Parks shares the stage with no one.
Film Screening & Discussion--  Episode 1 of "Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?"
Thursday, February 26, 7:30-9:00pm

Join us for the first segment of this seven-episode series originally televised on PBS, that aims to draw attention to the root causes of health and illness and to help reframe the debate about health in America.  A recent winner of the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award for excellence in broadcast journalism, "Unnatural Causes" crisscrosses the country exploring how the social conditions in which we are born, live and work can get under the skin and profoundly shape health and longevity, even more than behaviors, genes or medical care.  The unequal distribution of these social conditions - and their health consequences - is not natural or inevitable.  Following the film we will have a Q&A and discussion moderated by Camara Jones, MD, MPH, PhD, Research Director on Social Determinants of Health and Equity at the CDC.  Dr. Jones, who appears several times in the film series, has been integral in bringing these issues to the forefront of public health. For more information on the film series, visit www.unnaturalcauses.org
