Support Affordable Housing in the Peach Tree Corridor Plan
Saturday, May 5 at 9:00am
City Council Chambers (55 Trinity Avenue)

The $1 billion Peachtree Corridor plan is among the largest place-based redevelopment efforts in Atlanta's recent history. On Saturday, May 5 Mayor Franklin has called for a public hearing on recommendations issued by the Peachtree Corridor Task Force to transform the corridor into a world-class destination for Atlanta's visitors and residents. This public hearing offers an opportunity for Atlanta's housing advocates and concerned citizens to share a vision that includes affordable housing as part of the plan. For Peachtree to realize its promise as a truly great street, it demands housing options affordable to a mix of income levels along its 14 mile length. We are advocating for at least 15 percent of public funding to protect and create affordable housing in its footprint. It is vital that citizens of the region show up at this meeting to show their support for affordable housing. Come to the City Council Chambers (55 Trinity Avenue) this Saturday, May 5 at 9:00am to show support for a Peachtree Corridor that includes affordable housing. visit our web site www.rccatl.org or go to www.peachtreecorridor.com

Fun Crafts with Rubber Tubing

Thursday, May 10, 7:30-9:00pm
Local D.I.Y. superheroes Lynn & Olaava will share their crafting skills with us as they demonstrate fun uses for old bicycle tubing. Belts, bracelets, harnesses, or anything else that's strappy and strong can be made from discarded tubes. This way, you can save the planet and look good doing it! If possible, please bring a hammer, a pair of pliers and a pointed tool (such as an awl or small knife), along with some cash for supplies (snaps, rings, etc.). Part of the project will occur outside, so be sure to wear your best "kneeling and sitting on filthy concrete" attire.

Untangling Oppressions: Conversations on Women & Disability
Untangling Oppressions: Conversations on Women & Disability
Thursday, May 31, 7:30-9:00pm

People with and without disabilities are invited to get together and talk about the impact disability plays in their lives. This is a continuing discussion that was started at Atlanta City Hall last September. Facilitated by Kate Gainer of the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD), the discussion is intended to explore the unique problems or needs of women living with disabilities. We will try to answer these and other questions: How does disability affect the process of becoming the woman you want to be? What are the pressing issues among women in general, and does disability have a significant effect on those issues? What can we do to make positive changes in the lives of women?
